Nature of request
The petitioners state that when their ship arrived in Ireland from Spain and Flanders, it was attacked by men of Stradbally. The sailors resisted and captured the attackers, ransoming them for £400, but they were then attacked again at Galway by Merson and others, and the £400 was stolen, together with other goods worth £80. They therefore request that a commission be granted to Thye and others to enquire into this matter and make restitution.
Nature of endorsement
Issue a commission under the great seal to Thye, sovereign of Galway, Lynche, Rederys and William, captains of the town, to enquire into this matter, and if it is found that the claims are true, and these things occurred within the county of Connacht, then let the commissioners order restitution to the petitioners of their goods.By the Council, by the Chancellor, Treasurer, the Bishop of Hereford, Keeper of the Privy Seal, J Scarle, J Prophet, John Cheyne, William Esturmy.
