SC 8/217/10850
Date
[1403-1404]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Berkele (Berkeley), knight.
Name(s)
de Berkele (Berkeley), Thomas
Addressees
Council.
Nature of request
Thomas de Berkele requests that warrants be issued under the great and privy seals to the Priors of Barnstaple and Bodmin, collectors in Exeter diocese of the tenths lately granted at St Pauls, and also to the abbot of Bindon, collector of the same tax in the archdeaconries of Dorset and Salisbury in Salisbury diocese, authorising them to pay him the remaining £568 of a debt of £1000 owed to him by the king. The other £432 has been allocated from the revenues of the lay tax in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset. He also requests that the sums be duly discharged against the collectors' accounts at the Exchequer.
Nature of endorsement
Because the treasurers of war have shown to the council that they have made part payment of £432 to Berkeley, and he has agreed to take the remainder fro the proceeds of the recent tenth granted in the dioceses of Exeter and Salisbury, it is agreed by the council that writs be issued under the great seal to the collectors in those dioceses to pay him the residue of that sum. By the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Duke of York, the Bishop of Lincoln, Chancellor, the Bishop of Bath, the Earl of Somerset, the Treasurer, the Keeper of the Privy Seal, John Cheyne, Arnold Savage, John Doreward, John Cursoun.
