Nature of request
The petitioner asks for a full explanation as to whom certain prisoners and their goods belong to by right and reason, considering that they seem to belong to him. He states that various boats of the French enemy advanced there on the sea to take and rob the king's lieges. One of the enemy boats was damaged on the stakes driven into the petitioner's land for the defence of the isle of Thanet in his lordship, and some of the enemy from said boat swam and others assembled with their goods and prayed and swam until taken by the petitioner's servants and tenants of the said lordship. Some of the enemy then saved and taken have escaped and are at large spying on the coast in those parts for lack of safeguard.
Nature of endorsement
Let this bill be sent into chancery and summon the king's justices and sergeants, and enough bachelors, men-at-arms and others etc., and explain this matter and the circumstances etc., and make right for the king as for the petitioner according to the law and custom of the land etc.
