Nature of request
The commons request having consideration that it was so ordained in the parliament held at Westminster 1 Henry V, that all statutes and ordinances made concerning the measures of corn be firmly held and kept, and that no purveyors of the king or others use any other measure than eight level bushels to the quarter. Justices are to have power to inquire and hear pleas concerning abuses of this, and those convicted are to be imprisoned for a year, and pay 100s. each to the king and party. The statutes of weights and measures are to be proclaimed, and the mayors and bailiffs of cities and boroughs have powers to hear complaints concerning the same for similar penalties, accounting at the Exchequer for the profits and forfeitures for the same.
