Description
Petitioners
Abbot and convent of Our Lady of York
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The petitioners state that they have been wrongfully disturbed of their right in the borough of Bootham by the mayor and commonalty, it already being adjudged to them in parliament in the time Edward the king's grandfather, a great dispute has arisen over the borough, the petitioners suing by petition to the king for remedy. The borough was to be taken into the king's hands until the parties could come before the king to discuss the matter. A commission was made, and the escheator ordered to have livery of the borough. However the mayor and commonalty have menaced the escheator and by force have intimidated and hindered the petitioners. The petitioners request that the king by his commission make the chancellor, treasurer and others to hear and to have the final determination of the dispute, and that a writ be sent to sufficient men to take the borough into the king's hand in default of the escheator until the matter is settled.
Nature of endorsement
The king wishes that this bill be executed as far as the law allows.
