Description

Short title: Coventry v Dudley.

Plaintiff(s): Sir Thomas Coventry, kt (Attorney General), by information.

Defendant(s): Ambrose Dudley, John Gray, Peter Gray, Christopher Staworth, John Stephenson, Robert Dudley, Thomas Hedley.

Subject of depositions: Woody grounds called Chopwell Woods, parcel of the manor of Chopwell. Alleged waste and spoil on the woods by Ambrose Dudley, and others, "by colour of a warrant for 150 trees assigned for the allom works" [of York]. Touching former suits on charges similar to the present. [A grant of woods by the late Queen Elizabeth to Sir Robert Constable is mentioned].

County/place: Durham.

Date of commission: 17 February 1624.

Additional information: interrogatories and depositions taken 9 April 1624 at Chester-in-the-Street.
