Description

Captured ship: William of London (suspected of Amsterdam) (master William Woolcot of Sidbury, Devon).

History: an English merchant ship (50 tons, 8 men, 1 passenger), bound from Barbados via Falmouth and Plymouth to Amsterdam, laden with sugar and ginger; but was diverted to London on news of outbreak of war off Falmouth on 16/26 June 1672, came into Plymouth on 28 June/8 July 1672 and was there seized on 2/12 July 1672.

Court Papers, numbered CP 1-3:-

  • [CP 1]: standing interrogatories;
  • [CP 2]: four examinations taken at Plymouth, 3, 5, 10 and 11 July 1672;
  • [CP 3]: cargo manifest, 12 July 1672.

Extra information: see IND 1/9012, f.89v: ship and some goods restored 27 September 1672; some goods restored 11 October 1672.
