No 37. [See also 36].

Captured ship: Isabella of Ostend, otherwise Elizabeth (master [Charles Seiren]).

History: a Flemish (Spanish Netherlands) merchant ship; taken [before 6 August] 1673 by HMS Hunter (George Colt commanding) and brought into Plymouth.

Allegation and claim (17 September 1673) of Andrew Samms of Ostend.

In March 1673 Ralph Crow of Greenwich told Thomas Raymond of Deptford of the opportunity of buying a prize ship Hope in Holland or Zeeland, offering him a share. Payment was made through Armiger, English merchant at Dordrecht. Raymond bought 1/8 share. Crow also offered a share to Jasper Kans, English merchant of London, who bought a share [unspecified]. Crow renamed the ship Isabella. Andrew Samms bought the ship from Kans and made her an Ostend ship.

See IND 1/9012 f.41v: examinations received by court 20 August 1673; condemned 6 March 1674/5.
