Captured ship: Isabella of Ostend, otherwise Elizabeth (master [Charles Seiren].)
History: a Flemish (Spanish Netherlands) merchant ship (previously Hope, an English prize bought at Veere[?] Flushing); taken [before 6 August] 1673 by HMS Hunter (George Colt commanding) and brought into Plymouth.
Allegation, 10 September 1673, of Andrew Samms and Joshua Moore. In March 1673 Ralph Crow of Greenwich went to Camphire [Veere] in Zeeland to buy a ship, there employed Jacob Monroy as broker, and bought the Isabella, then named Hope, an English prize belonging to Mark Fletcher, English merchant, resident of Middelburg. Crow then had her fitted out for himself, but was called into the service of 'the Prince' [Rupert] as an 'attendant' and could not get leave to go over and fetch the ship, so sold her to Andrew Samms of Ostend. Crow, hearing of the capture of the ship, came to the court from the fleet on 9 September and must return tonight.
