Description

Folios 183-184: Thomas Western, HMS Impregnable, Yarmouth Roads, Isle of Wight. Arrived on 19 January together with Betty and Arun Transports on 19 January and waiting for wind to proceed to Plymouth under Admiralty Orders dated 15 January. Received letter from Major Hare, Commanding Officer of invalid artillery on board the Betty (copy enclosed) re the quality of the bread being issued. Ordered his Purser and Boatswain to board the Betty and survey the bread complained of. Encloses of Order and Survey (Note: Survey not with documents). Concerned he will have similar complaints on voyage to Bermuda and requests assistance in how he should act.

Folios 185-186: enclosure with folios 183-184. Order of Thomas Western dated 20 January 1794 for his Purser and Boatswin to board the Betty Ordnance Transport ship and survey the bread and report their findings.

Folios 187-188: enclosure with folios 183-184. Letter from Thomas Hare, Commanding Artillery on board Betty Ordnance Transport, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight dated 19 January 1794. States Mr Mich Cockrill, Master of the Betty bound for Bermuda is issuing bread which is appears not to be of quality ordered by the Government and requests a survey.
