Description

Folios 299-300: Joseph Short, [Regulating Officer], Lynn [Kings Lynn]. States tow men John Waites and Francis Bradford being returned from the Nore, the first is a Landsman and the other unserviceable from having formerly had a fractured arm. He encloses a certificate of Lieutenant William Dalton with respect to the first as also three reputable Surgeons with respect to the first. Request to know if he should send them to the Nore, now having twenty men here and Wisbech and also ten at Wells [Wells-near-the-Sea] By Lieutenant Seymors [John Seymour] last return and wishing to send the Tender away on Sunday. Having this day received your letter dated 29 May 1798 referring him to his Instructions of the 26 May 1798. He begs to observe that having prest four Mates of Colliers and now having the Act of the 2nd of Queen Anne alluded to. He hopes they will approve of his having done so.

Folio 301: enclosure with folios 299-300. Certificate dated 30 May 1798 of the Subscribing Surgeons at Lynn Regis [Kings Lynn]. At the request of Captain Joseph Short we have examined Francis Bradford and find he had in the past a fracture of the right arm near the wrist but he now appears recovered and capable of his duty. Signed Hugh Crawforth Surgeon and Agent to the Sick & Hurt Seaman, Thomas Upwood Examining Surgeon & Barnard Middleton Surgeon.

Folio 302: enclosure with folios 299-300. Lieutenant William Dalton, Lynn [Kings Lynn]. Certificate that John Waites entered with him at the Rendezvous at this place on 8 May 1798 a Volunteer. Dated 31 May 1798.
