Folios 289-290: Joseph Short, [Regulating Officer], Wells [Wells-next-the-Sea]. Reports that in consequence of their order for him to enquire into the case of the two apprentices impressed by Lieutenant Seymors [John Seymour] & Lieutenant Brown[?], he came to this place & find the Thomas Platten has entered voluntarily with Lieutenant Seymors [John Seymour], there is also another apprentice who wants about three months of serving his three years, that was pressed at the same time and he has since entered voluntarily his name is James Shorten, finding James Shickel[?] case as reported, he has discharged him and given the Certificate as directed. Request direction on the two apprentices.
