Description

Folio: 195. Gloucestershire. Obligation.

First party: William, abbot of Flaxleye [Flaxley], and the convent there.

Second party: Henry de Lancaster.

Place or subject: The abbot and convent grant that they are bound forever to Henry de Lancaster, his heirs and assigns to receive two clerks suitable for their religion at their presentation and join them to their company, who are to celebrate perpetually for the souls of Edmund, son of Henry III [Edmund of Lancaster], and Blanche, his wife, late queen of Navarre. And after the death of the same clerks, others are to be substituted in their place forever by their presentation. The abbot and convent permit another two of their monks as chaplains in the place of their presented men, whenever it will be necessary, to perform these divine services until these presented men come to the priesthood, etc. Towards faithfully observing all these things, the abbot and convent bind themselves, their monastery and all their places and especially all their lands and tenements within the manor of Rodleye [Rodley] and Munestreworth [Minsterworth] to the distraint and coercion of Henry, his heirs and assigns forever.
