Folios 152-154.
To: The General Board of Health.
From: Charles E Deacon, Town Clerk and Clerk to the Local Board of Health, Southampton [Hampshire].
Subject Matter: Letter acknowledging receipt of a letter dated 12 September 1856, enclosing the consent of the General Board to the Southampton Local Board borrowing a further sum of £6000 upon the rates. Upon referring to the consent itself, Deacon finds it recited that sanction had already been given to borrow £115,649 11s 5d - 'this I cannot make out as correct'. He thinks that an error has arisen in consequence of one of the consents having been returned and a fresh consent given afterwards to borrow a smaller amount. The money which the Local Board has actually borrowed is said to be £108,361. Deacon hopes to hear from the General Board upon this subject, so that the mistake may be rectified.
