Description

Prisoner name: John Carter.

Prisoner age: 40.

Prisoner occupation: Bricklayer.

Court and date of trial: Norwich City Assizes [Norfolk], March 1837.

Crime: Stealing lead.

Initial sentence: 14 years transportation.

Gaoler's report: Character very bad. Second conviction.

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): John Carter, the prisoner, undersigned by six inhabitants of Norwich, including the prosecutor.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner has a wife and family to support; the crime was committed when he was unemployed; his conduct in gaol has been good.
