Description

Prisoner name: William Chesterman.

Prisoner age: 30.

Prisoner occupation: Post boy for Thomas Clarke, White Horse Inn, Windsor, Berkshire.

Court and date of trial: Windsor Quarter Sessions, 25 March 1837.

Crime: Stealing one truss of hay, the property of his master, Thomas Clarke, together with man named Howe, horsekeeper.

Initial sentence: Six months imprisonment with hard labour.

Gaoler's report: Nil.

Petitioner(s): Wiliam Chesterman, the prisoner, undersigned by Thomas Clarke, the prosecutor, and 29 inhabitants of Windsor and London.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner was deceived by the thief, Howe; the prosecutor recommended mercy; the prisoner's friends were unable to attend court to attest to his good character; his friends will provide him with employment.
