Captured ship: L'Espérance of Rouen (master Charles Merie otherwise Merre, Merrie or Merye).
History: a French smack (80 tons, 5 men), bound from Issigny to Le Havre, laden with coals and butter; deserted by the crew and taken on 4/15 August 1745 off the River of Rouen by the privateers Greyhound (Daniel Piton commanding) and Fox (Thomas Le Page the younger commanding), and brought into Guernsey.
