Captured ship: Swallow of Baltimore (master William Bowen).
History: an American merchant ship (schooner, 60 tons, 11 men), bound from St Eustatius to Baltimore, laden with rum, geneva or gin, tea, pepper, bales of dry goods and some ironmongery; taken on 5 or 6 December 1778 about 5 miles south of Currituck inlet, latitude 36°24'N, longitude 74°30'W by the privateer Gambier (James Crew commanding), and brought into New York.
