Captured ship: Salisbury of Baltimore (master George Buchanan).
History: an American merchant ship (brig, 220 tons, 6 guns, 16 men, 1 passenger), bound from Baltimore, Maryland to Nantes in convoy, laden with tobacco; taken on 2 February 1779 in latitude 42°40'N, longitude 35°W by the privateer Pole (John Maddock commanding), and (by force of weather) brought first into Loch Raine, Scotland, then into Lough Larne, Ireland, and then into the River Mersey. [The cover of the log book appears to be repurposed from the brig Adventer or Christon and is decorated on front with drawing of a two masted ship [brig or snow]; Letters 36 [especially] , 41 46, 56, 64, 80, 85, 112, 119 full of news about the conditions of war].
