Captured ship: Rossignol (master Jan Spencer, prize master from Renard).
History: a French merchant ship (100 tons, 2 guns), bound from Saint Domingue to Bordeaux, laden with sugar, coffee, indigo; taken on 3 December 1781 in the Bay of Biscay by the privateer Loyal of Weymouth, retaken on 8 December 1781 off the Lizard by the French privateer Renard of Calais (unknown commander), and taken for the third time on 8 December 1781 by HMS Aeolus (George Keppel commanding), and HMS Vestal ([George Cranfield Berkeley] commanding), and brought into Falmouth .
Court papers: 1-18; Ship's papers: 19-20. [These are interim paper numbers, and are likely to change once more fully catalogued].
