Captured ship: Lurcher (master William Doyle).
History: a British privateer (cutter), charged with piracy, having unlawfully on 18 May 1781 seized the Scottish sloop Scheme of Ayr (Robert Kneale commanding) at anchor at Friderichswaag in the Faeroe Islands, laden with rum, brandy and gin and intended for Lisbon; and brought first into Orkney, and then into Liverpool. Doyle is quoted as saying 'What are Privateers but Pirates'.
