Captured ship: Lucretia (master Jacob Sarly; prize master John Bishop).
History: an American merchant ship (sloop (60/70 tons, 8 men), bound from Bordeaux to Newport, Rhode Island, laden with saltpetre and brimstone; taken on 14 January 1777 off the coast of Newport by HMS Kingfisher (Alexander Graham commanding) (where some of the sulphur was taken off her, she was assigned to an exchanged prisoner, John Bishop, to sail to England), and brought into Plymouth.
