High Court of Admiralty.
Captured ship: Bagatelle of St Malo (master Joseph Le Depensier).
Capture history: a French merchant ship (brigantine, 80-90 tons, abandoned by her crew) bound from St Martin de Ré to Brest, laden with vinegar; taken on 27 April 1782 off the French coast by the privateer Hope of Jersey (Francis Pirouet commanding), and brought into Penzance.
Intended voyage: within France.
Court papers numbered CP 1-4:-
- [CP 1]: attestation as to papers (numbered 1-6) brought in by the prize master John Le Mentais, first lieutenant, 9 May 1782;
- [CP 2]: standing interrogatories;
- [CP 3]: two depositions of John Le Montais, Philip Falle, both of the Hope, 9 May 1782;
- [CP 4]: translations of ship's papers.
Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-6:-
- SP 1: muster roll;
- SP 2-SP 6: receipts and bills of lading.
