Description

Folio 164: Frederick Langford, HMS Fury, the Downs. Encloses the papers relating to Henry Bell, Mate, the Betsy, who has voluntarily entered HMS Fury. Advises that Thomas Shearcroft is not on the books of HMS Fury and suggests he might have been taken by HMS Vesuvius who relieved him on the River Colne.

Folios 165-166: enclosed with folio 164. Petition of Thomas Fothringham, Master, the Betsey to the Admiralty. Asks for the discharge of Henry Bell, Chief Mate, the Betsey who was impressed by HMS Fury on 22 May near Maldon. Advises that he had an affidavit.
