Description

Folios 494-495: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 17 April. John Sherrack, who stated he was born in America, was pressed by Lieutenant Rees on 7 February as an Able Seaman. The information was that he was born in Ireland. He had a strong Irish accent. He arrived in a Prussian brig from Rotterdam, and produced a certificate of being an American, signed by the American Consul in Rotterdam, although his parents have lived for some years in Liverpool. Hugh Thomas, born in Wales, was pressed on 9 April [see folio 472-473]. John Williams, born in Wales, was pressed by Lieutenant Clarke on 11 April as an Ordinary Seaman. An indenture was produced to claim him, originally dated in January 1806 but altered to read 1808. He returns the enclosures.

Folio 498-499: enclosure with folios 494-495. Petition dated 13 April 1809 by Mary Williams, c/o Mrs Dickinson, Georges Back Passage, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Petition for the release of her son John Williams on production of substitutes.

Folios 500-501: enclosure with folios 494-495. Petition dated 14 April 1809 by Thomas Sharrock, c/o Thomas Moor, New York Tavern, Wapping, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Petition for the release of his son and sole support, John Sharrack, on production of substitutes.
