Folios 460-461: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 8 April. James Hazlehurst, born in Cumberland, was pressed by Lieutenant Clarke on 30 March as an Able Seaman. He said he was second Mate of the Rein Deer. He was taken on shore at night. he returns the enclosure.
Folios 462-463: enclosure with folios 460-461. Petition dated 5 April 1809 by Margaret Hazlehurst, 24 Fairhurst Street, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Petition for the release of her son, the second of 9 children, who was pressed on his arrival in Liverpool as Second Mate of the Rein Deer, arrived that day from Pernambuco [Brazil]. Her eldest son was pressed at Newfoundland and is serving in the Navy, so her second son, James, is her chief support, as her husband left years ago. She is willing to find substitutes for his release.
