2 collective petitions (2 prisoners and 8 people from Chelsea) on behalf of Thomas Richard White and Henry Cotton and 1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (31 people from Chelsea) on behalf of Henry Cotton convicted at the Old Bailey in December 1830 for housebreaking and stealing 2 hams, value 20s and a knife, property of Joseph Greaves [Joseph Grieves] of Kings Road, Chelsea. Grounds for clemency: White and Cotton - young age, very repentant. Cotton - first offence, led astray by others, respectable parents, two former employers William Shepherd and Nathaniel Hinchliff can testify to good character. Initial sentence: death commuted to life transportation. Annotated: considered at Report in Council 2 March 1831. NP 40
