1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (40 people) with accompanying letter from Mr Rose on behalf of Thomas Whatley convicted at Wiltshire Special Assizes in December 1830 for destroying machinery, property of Brazier and Company, carpet manufacturers of Wilton. Grounds for clemency: present at crime but not active participant, did not personally destroy machinery, led astray by others who instigated crime, only 17, did not realise seriousness of crime. Initial sentence: death commuted to life transportation. Annotated: nil. NP 39
