Description

1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (13 people plus testimonial) with accompanying letter on behalf of George Shergold, labourer, convicted at Wiltshire Special Assizes in December 1830 for destroying machinery, property of Mr Brazier of Wilton on 24 November last. Grounds for clemency: forced to join rioters out of fear, did not want to break into premises, previous good character, first offence. Initial sentence: death commuted to life transportation. Annotated: nil. NP 27
