3 individual petitions (prisoner) and 2 collective petitions (5 tradesmen and 9 people including prosecutor) on behalf of John Scotchmer, journeyman miller, convicted at Kent Quarter Sessions Maidstone in October 1830 for stealing flour from employer George Wilding of Dartford. Gaoler's report: character supposed to be good, conduct good on board the Leviathan hulk. Grounds for clemency: previous good character in business, convicted on circumstantial evidence, wife died in workhouse in September 1831, if sentence remitted could provide for 6 destitute children. Initial sentence: 7 years' transportation. Annotated: nil. NP 26
