- Folio 214. Draft letter from E C [Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission] to [Hugh Rice and William Williams], Overseers of St Just in Roseland, St Mawes, in the Truro Poor Law Union, acknowledging their letter of 11 October 1841, relating to the £60 debt incurred by their parish. He informs them that as they have sold their interest in the workhouse, the proceeds must, be used to pay off the balance. This will require a meeting of the rate payers and overseers and he encloses the appropriate forms [not included]. These must be returned with the original promissory notes, so the Commission can issue the necessary order. He informs them that the debt is not a legal charge on the poor rates. Annotated: send forms. W G L [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission]. Paper Number: 9502/A/1841. Poor Law Union Number 57. Counties: Cornwall.
