Description
Content
Folios 22-23. Draft letter from the Secretary to the Poor Law Commission to Edmund Turner, [Magistrate] of Truro. He states that the Commissioners have read his letter of 26 November 1834, but have insufficient information to say whether the overseers in Kenwyn were correct to refuse out relief to the two old people referred to. The Commissioners intend the stricter administration of the poor laws to be aimed at the strong and active rather than the old. He refers to an enclosed circular [not included] explaining the powers retained by magistrates, but these do not apply where no union has been declared. Poor Law Union Number 57. Counties: Cornwall.
