Description

1 individual petition (Charles Chaplin, Chairman of the Magistrates) on behalf of William Barratt and William Allatt, labourers, convicted at Lincoln Quarter Sessions Sleaford on 22 October for riot and assault.

Grounds for clemency:

  • good conduct while in prison,
  • previous steady and industrious characters,
  • used less violence than other rioters two of whom Thomas Bunch and Richard Brothwell were sentenced to 6 months imprisonment with hard labour,
  • swayed by outside agitators.

Initial sentence: 4 months' imprisonment with hard labour. Annotated: to be pardoned. KQ 2
