2 individual petitions (prisoner) and 2 collective petitions (14 and 12 residents of Ratcliffe Highway, Wapping and London, including the victim) on behalf of Michael Murphy convicted at the Old Bailey on 26 November 1834 for cutting John Hallisey with intent to murder. Grounds for clemency: the attack was provoked by the victim who burst into prisoner's room insulting him and his family, it was only a minor injury so the victim was able to return to work after 3 days, the attack was committed in the heat of the moment, no premeditated malice, the prisoner has a wife and 2 children to support, the jury recommended mercy.
