1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition with occupations (41 inhabitants of Wells [Somerset]) on behalf of John Gould convicted at the Somerset Quarter Sessions at Wells in January 1835 for stealing ducks belonging to John Jerrard and John Perry. Gaoler's report: character believed to be good, married 2 children. Grounds for clemency: wife and 2 children to support, previous good character, led into crime by others which now regrets. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Annotated: 2 years in penitentiary 'not a heavy offence'. AV 39
