Description

1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (16 inhabitants of London including 7 master plumbers) on behalf of John Crowder convicted with John Lock at the Old Bailey on 2 February 1835 for stealing solder belonging to Robert Leach, plumber of 16 Broad Street. Grounds for clemency: Lock only sentenced to 6 months imprisonment, first offence, previous honest character, only committed crime because unemployed and desperate, friend Robert Barker offered to employ him if discharged. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Gaoler's report: character not known. Annotated: nil [pencil notes]. AV 13
