1 individual petition (prisoner) and 2 collective petitions (101 and 79 inhabitants of Witney [Oxfordshire]) and 1 accompanying letter on behalf of William Harman convicted at the Oxford Lent Assizes in March 1834 for receiving stolen cart rope and pack sheets. Grounds for clemency: first offence, previous honest character, offence committed through ignorance, wife, 6 children and aged mother to support, later wife deserts children to be looked after by grandmother. Initial sentence: 14 years transportation. Gaoler's report: character good, respectable connections, married 6 children. Annotated: sentence commuted to 7 years transportation, ordered to Penitentiary for 7 years. AT 26
