Description

1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (2 prosecutors) and accompanying letter from [Thomas Tiery] on behalf of Robert Carter convicted at the Romsey Quarter Sessions on 17 July 1830 for stealing cheese, property of Thomas Cowley and John Thomas Groves. Grounds for clemency: good conduct while prisoner on prison hulk York at Portsmouth, penitent, wife and 4 children being supported by the parish. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Gaoler's report: orderly, conduct good aboard York. Annotated: nil. AT 13
