4 individual petitions (two from the prisoner; prosecutor; Captain Brown) on behalf of Richard Tolkington convicted at the Old Bailey in July 1824 of forgery. Covering letter from Marquis of Conyngham forwarding petition. Grounds of clemency: lost his job when his employer moved to Brighton. Had a wife and family to support. Deeply contrite. Recommended to mercy by jury and prosecutor. Initial sentence: death. Annotated: considered at the Report in Council August 14 1824. MK23
