1 individual petition (Richard Lloyd, the prisoner's father) and 1 collective petition (11 inhabitants of London) on behalf of Philip Smith, alias Philip Lloyd, convicted at the Old Bailey in July 1824 of theft of goods valued at more than 40 shillings. Grounds for clemency: recommended to mercy by jury. Previous good character. Article he stole has been returned to its owner Messrs Jarvis and Co. Father unable to account for his son's behaviour. Father served in the army in the 1st regiment of Tower Hamlets Volunteers. Initial Sentence: death. Annotated; considered at the Report in Council 14 August 1824. MK22
