2 individual petitions (prisoner and John Webster, Session Clerk) on behalf of Robert Hay, farmer, convicted at the Justiciary Court at Aberdeen in September 1819 of uttering a forged bill of exchange to the value of thirty pounds. Three letters advising on progress in case and forwarding petitions. Grounds for clemency: wholly ignorant that the bill was forged. Lost out as he had given full value for its amount. 33 years of age. Previous good character. Has a wife and two young children. Family reduced to deepest misery. Been on the hulks for two years and four months. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Annotated: 'Nil.' MH37
