Samuel Clay was convicted at the Midsummer Session [Nottingham] 1819 of disobeying an order made upon him for the maintenance of his daughter and sentenced to three months' imprisonment and a fine of thirty pounds. Two letters from Jacob Smith Godfrey, Clerk of the Peace, Nottingham Magistrates, one asking for directions on the Copy of Commitment and Statement of the Governor and the other advising that the prisoner had paid the thirty pounds. Annotated: 'February 11 1822 to be recommended to the Treasury. February 12 1822 - copy with enclosures sent to the Treasury.' MH29
