Description

2 collective petitions (2 parents of prisoner and 17 inhabitants of Middlesex) on behalf of William Gould aged 14 convicted at the Old Bailey in February 1820 of stealing lead. Grounds for clemency: Has been on board Justicia Hulk for eighteen months and has behaved well. Parents brought up son in honesty. They believe that he has become a victim of some bad persons who took advantage of him. Parents have a friend who is a shoemaker and has promised to take on prisoner as an apprentice. Initial sentence: 7 years' transportation. Annotated: Nil. MH27
