1 individual petition (Charlotte Robinson, wife) and 1 collective petition (4 gentlemen) on behalf of James Robinson, labourer, convicted at Suffolk Quarter Sessions October 1829 of stealing wheat, property of Mr Kersey of Boss Hall. There is also a letter from Mr C J Wright to Mr Peel transferring the petition. Grounds for clemency: prosecutor could not swear he had lost any wheat but some found in prisoner's house was his, so only circumstantial evidence, no definite proof, wife pregnant and raising young family, prisoner should have further chance to plead his case. Initial sentence: 7 years' transportation. Gaoler's report: character as bad as possible and known thief for years. Annotated: nil. KO50
