Folio 41. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Messrs W and E Willoby [William Willoby and Edward Willoby], Clerks to the Guardians of the Berwick-upon-Tweed Poor Law Union acknowledging receipt of their letter of 3 March regarding payments to witnesses at Hawley's [W H Toovey Hawley, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner] enquiry into Black's [Ebenezer Black Guardian for Grindon] case; in the light of the new information, assuming the distances given are correct, the Commission is prepared to pay, by Post Office order, Mr Thompson's and George Dippie's travel allowances, if the guardians have not already paid them. The Commission presumes that other witnesses have been paid and regret that it had not been given the present information sooner. Paper number: 2596/A/1845. Poor Law Union Number 325. Counties: Town and County of Berwick-upon-Tweed and Northumberland.
