Folio 16. Copy of a draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Joseph Boulton, Assistant Overseer of the Poor, Burslem, in reply to letter of 22 February 1836, stating that there is no distinction between the classes of females reported, and that to reduce the amount of bastardy the workhouse must be put under effective economic management and no payment be made to mothers of bastards outside the workhouse. However, until these measures are in place, payment in kind may be made in food or other necessities for the children. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
