Draft copy letter from Poor Law Commission to Joseph Lowndes, Vestry Clerk, Wolstanton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, in reply to letter 18 September 1835, stating that parish officers are not empowered to prevent marriage of paupers, but the way to prevent inmates of a workhouse from marrying is to make a rule that persons of different sexes are only allowed out on different days. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
