Report of Lord Ellenborough on behalf of Henry Kennett, 'commissioned officer in the Royal Navy', convicted at the Court of Kings Bench at the Guildhall in December 1805 for 'a conspiracy' pertaining to the bankruptcy of the prisoner and his father and prosecuted by the Attorney General.
There is a detailed statement of the case; letters from Eldon to Kennet on the correct protocol for submitting a petition and that Kennet may be considered a fit object for mercy.
Grounds for clemency: if the bankruptcy is not removed it will be a great disability to his future as a Naval Officer, has served in the navy since his boyhood, has seen action under Lord Bridport against the French on 23 June 1795 and 13 April 1796, the prisoner was discharged at the peace in 1803, the prisoner was only 21 when he was misled by his father, he has proved himself to be a loyal subject and has served his term in prison. Initial sentence: 12 months imprisonment. Recommendation: mercy, as the prisoner has been influenced by his 'very wicked father'. Folios 271-278.
