- [The petition is badly damaged with a portion of the left-hand side being missing, and smaller holes throughout the petition. In addition, the legibility is poor. However, the text of the petition appears to enrolled in the patent rolls for December 1461].The petition refers to a dispute between the dean and chapter of Exeter and the mayor, bailiffs and commonalty of Exeter concerning the geographical extent and nature of the liberties of the former beyond the east gate of the city. The mayor, bailiffs and commonalty claimed the same as a suburb of the city, whilst the dean and chapter claimed it as their fee of St Sidwell. [Extensive detail is given of the bounds and the nature of the liberty].
