[Edward I, King of England].
Note
Dated in the dating clause to 15 September in King Edward's second year, and to 1308 by reference to the Bishop of Chichester as Chancellor. However, this is clearly the copy referred to in the petition at SC 8/337/15903, and presumably dates from the same time as that petition, between 1310 and c. 1321. Langton, described there as the former chancellor, left office in July 1310, and Somery appears on the patent roll as a royal clerk and official until around 1321. He was appointed to the benefice of Llan-faes on Anglesey on 18 June 1319, and as warden of St Thomas's Hospital, Marlborough, on 12 March 1321, possibly but not necessarily a direct consequence of this petition. The petition which led to the original writ would seem to be that at SC 8/270/13485.
